About Us

picture

Founded in 2003, the mission of SAACP evolved from the inspiration of a breast cancer patient who died at age 44. This patient recognized the value of choice and respect in the design of her treatment and in the final months of her life. She wanted to create an opportunity for others facing a terminal illness to have the same ‘coaching’ and access to care options that respected her values so she could face the end of her life with dignity and self-empowerment. A memorial established at her death allowed us to conduct focus groups in the Seattle African American community and the results from these focus groups became the inspiration for our organization and its mission. We are currently funded though a combination of grants, fund-raising and revenue from our teaching services.
